Packing for the Slopes

Packing for the Slopes

Do not make the mistake of packing incorrectly for your holiday in Niseko. Niseko’s snow conditions are quite unique to ski resorts across the world so you can be easily mistaken in packing unsuitable ski equipment.

In particular, skis and snowboards are specifically designed for the amount of snow the equipment is intended to operate in. As such, most regular ski and snowboard equipment are too narrow, and incorrectly shaped for Niseko’s soft powder.

To avoid any problems, Gondola Chalets recommend you hire your ski and snowboard equipment upon arrival in Niseko. This way you can ensure you have the right equipment to traverse those waist-deep powder ranges.

Other Items to Pack

When travelling to Niseko in winter, ensure you bring a skiing jacket with a hood and skiing pants. You should also pack thermals and under layers, avoiding cotton as it captures moisture, plus fleeces in vest or long sleeve or both.

Other important items include helmet, goggles, headband or ear muffs, beanie, neck warmer and gloves. Silk or merino wool glove inners can also be useful. Additionally, skiing socks, a face mask, and hooded tops are recommended. Extra pairs of anything that might not dry overnight are also a must-pack.

Finally, sunscreen, lip balm, tissues and goggle wipes are all useful to have. And don’t forget a Japanese power adapter!
